How is the Alexander Technique taught?

Alexander Technique is taught in a series of one-on-one lessons. Most lessons utilize the hands-on guidance of the teacher, but Laura is also available for Zoom lessons for those unable to come to her Los Angeles space. AT is also taught in group settings and can be seen as part of the curriculum of many top college and conservatory performance programs.

How many lessons should I take?

The easiest way to explain this process is to compare lessons to learning a new language; the required time depends on how conversational or fluent you want to become. In the beginning, I recommend committing to at least five lessons to understand what Alexander is and how it can be useful to you in your life. Then the duration of your study is entirely up to you based on your goals. Some people study Alexander Technique for 3-6 months to incorporate this new skill into their daily lives, while some spend years continuing to refine their understanding and application.

How long is a lesson?

Lessons last 50 minutes. Please allow time for street parking and arrive as close to your lesson time as possible.

Do I need to bring anything or wear special clothes?

No special clothing is required, but remember you may spend some time lying on a table.

Does it hurt?

No, the Alexander Technique should not hurt! We are leaving “no, pain, no gain” at the door and exchanging it for a “work smarter, not harder” approach.

How much does it cost to study with you?

Lessons are $85 per session.

Where are you located?

I teach in my home studio in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles.

Do you offer group classes?

I teach group classes in performing arts programs and often teach group workshops and masterclasses. Please contact me if you want me to work with your group. You can also contact me to be on my group classes and workshops mailing list.
